Welcome to our first ‘BalaPutra: Exploring Masculinity through comics – vulnerabilities and challenges.
The word Balaputra comes from Sanskrit, meaning ‘moustache‘, and is a play on ideas of masculinity.
As the name indicates, this workshop is about exploring masculinity though comics with discussions, discourse, related engaging activities and writing comics.
The primary objective of this workshop is to critically analyze and reshape perceptions of masculinity through comic narratives, exploring the impacts of societal and cultural expectations. There will be conversations by a diverse group of presenters – who will talk about masculinity from their own perspectives and experiences. By fostering creative expression and thoughtful dialogue through comics, participants will work towards creating comics, publishing a collective anthology and a short exhibition.
The goal is to cultivate a positive change in attitudes and behaviours by establishing camaraderie and an environment that challenges gender stereotypes.Â
This workshop provides a platform for participants to develop nuanced and intriguing concepts of masculinity.Â
If you have a passion for comics but lack experience in creating them or have never tried screen printing, do not worry; we will provide assistance and ensure you enjoy the process of creation. We are also open to individual or “artists and writers” collaboration applicants– please clearly indicate this when filling out the form.
This workshop is a collaborative effort between Virangana Collective, Kaalo ek sey ek, 144 Ktm, Goethe Zentrum and Reclaiming Narratives
